St James is a church which believes God created our world, and still very much loves it, despite the damage we have done.

So we measure our carbon footprint, publish it in our annual report, and aim to minimise it. We try not to print on paper, so use screens in church for most purposes.

We love our churchyard, which is a quiet space, a green space and a memory palace for lots of people – we have a team who look after it, and tries to make it beautiful, enabling wildlife to flourish there.
We also have a plan to look after our church building which is grade 2 listed. This involves replacing the roof (partially completed in 2024), planning for a zero carbon heating system (we have a idea we are testing!) and hope refurbish the interior in order to make it a community space, available for local use 7 day/week in due course.
We are working towards the Eco Church Bronze award. More information about this can be found at ecochurch.arocha.org.uk
