Fairtrade at St James

St James Church has recently been officially accredited by the Fairtrade Foundation as a Fairtrade Church. This means we as a church have committed to:

1) Use Fairtrade tea and coffee at all services and events we are responsible for

2) Expand into using other Fairtrade products 3) Promote Fairtrade, especially during Fairtrade Fortnight (23rd Feb - 8th March '09) Fairtrade guarantees a better deal for Third World Producers. This means producers receive at least the fair minimum price for products, which covers the cost of its sustainable production. In addition to this, the Fairtrade premium is also paid, to be spent on community projects decided upon by the workers, typically education, healthcare and technology investment. This is great news for producers in developing countries who are guaranteed a fair price for their products. For more information see the Fairtrade Foundation website. [www.fairtrade.org.uk]
